In Chernihiv region, police exposed the clandestine production of excisable goods and seized tobacco products for 2.5 million UAH
During the searches, 3.5 tons of tobacco and more than 15,000 cigarettes were seized from the defendant. The offender may face punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to ten years with confiscation of property.
Operatives of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in the Chernihiv region together with the investigators of the Novgorod-Seversky Police Department documented the illegal activities of a 54-year-old local resident who established the manufacture and sale of counterfeit tobacco products in the city of Novgorod-Seversky. The man purchased large quantities of raw materials for the illegal manufacture of excisable goods, made cigarettes by the “spray method”, and then sold them through outlets at the local bazaar.
Law enforcement officers conducted 4 searches in warehouses, as well as at the place of residence and vehicle of the defendant. During the measures, 170 bags of tobacco weighing about 3.5 tons, more than 15,000 cigarettes and more than 16,000 cigarette sleeves, self-winding paper, bank cards, cash and a car were seized. The total value of the withdrawn products and raw materials is more than 2.5 million UAH.
At the moment, the defendant has been informed of the suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 204 (Illegal manufacture, storage, sale or transportation for the purpose of sale of excisable goods) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of eight to ten years with the confiscation of property, with the seizure and destruction of illegally produced or purchased products, equipment for its manufacture.
