Nuclear Fuel Storage Safety Standards Restored at Chernobyl
This was reported by Denis Monastyrsky, during a press briefing in the city of Chernobyl. The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs spoke about the return of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant under the control of Ukraine, ensuring the safety of nuclear fuel storage facilities and the situation with captured national guards.
“Thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and all those who help to liberate our land from the enemy, Chernobyl NPP is under the control of Ukraine today. The world can rest assured that we will bring order here and ensure the safety standards of nuclear fuel storage facilities and other dangerous facilities,” the minister said.
Denis Monastrysky drew the attention of journalists to the fact that Energoatom specialists and National Guardsmen returned to the facilities to perform their assigned tasks. Unfortunately, many guards remain in captivity, they were taken to the territory of Belarus and are there today.
“I will make sure that we will return all the boys, everyone will be alive, and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant will be under the control of Ukraine. We guarantee and ensure generally accepted safety standards,” said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Separately, he focused on the work of law enforcement officers, collecting evidence and recording the crimes committed by the occupiers.
“What the Russian occupiers have done here undoubtedly qualifies as a war crime. Evidence is collected by all law enforcement agencies, and in the future it will be transferred to Ukrainian and international courts. But a threat that is not measured here by evidence and judgments, it is measured by excessive radiation. The tragedy that happened 36 years ago should in no case be repeated,” the Interior Minister summed up.
