The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the International Commission on Missing Persons establish cooperation

To this end, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Bondarenko and specialists of the information and analytical units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police of Ukraine met today, May 26, with representatives of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICRC).

Igor Bondarenko expressed gratitude to the ICZB for the initiative and desire to help in the search for Ukrainians missing due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation.

“Thanks to a number of previous meetings, it has already been possible to identify points of contact for further interaction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the International Commission. We strive to study and take into account the practice of interaction of your organization with other countries and build the most effective algorithm for our further cooperation. After all, the military aggression of the Russian Federation has led to a number of terrible consequences, among which there are terrible statistics: since the beginning of the invasion, more than 2400 civilians have disappeared,” the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine noted.

In turn, ICZB representatives assured of their readiness to help the Ukrainian Government in the search for missing Ukrainians, using previous experience in collecting information and reference samples during the search for missing persons and using the capabilities of the search engine of the International Commission, which today has offices in 60 countries.

The parties discussed the technical aspects of synchronization of the Unified Register of Missing Persons in Special Circumstances, the holder of which is the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the search engine ICZB, as well as the possibility of maximum automation of information exchange.

“Now we are optimizing the information and telecommunication system created by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which interacts with the resources of the National Police, the State Border Guard Service and other state agencies of Ukraine. And we are ready to establish the exchange of information with ICZB, so that our data and yours coincide, there is the possibility of bilateral fitback and making changes, in accordance with the identification of the whereabouts or other information regarding each missing Ukrainian,” said Igor Bondarenko.

During the meeting, the parties agreed on further coordination of technical and legislative aspects in order to quickly sign a memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the ICRC and move to the active phase of cooperation.

“I am convinced that our cooperation will reduce the alarming statistics of missing Ukrainians,” said Igor Bondarenko.
