The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine signs Memorandum on Cooperation with the International Commission on Missing Persons

Today, on May 29, Ihor Klymenko, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, held a meeting with a delegation of the International Commission on Missing Persons headed by Kathryne Bomberger, the Director-General of the International Commission on Missing Persons.

The event was also attended by Leonid Tymchenko, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Artur Dobroserdov, the Commissioner for Persons Gone Missing under Special Circumstances, Serhii Krymchuk, Director of the State Research Forensic Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and others. 

The purpose of the meeting concerned the signing of a Memorandum on Cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the International Commission on Missing Persons, as well as the discussion of current areas of further cooperation in the field of searching for missing persons. 

At the outset of the meeting, Ihor Klymenko extended his gratitude to the partners for all their assistance and stressed that the use of modern equipment in the DNA laboratories of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine would contribute to the prompt search for missing persons and the building of the evidence base in criminal proceedings. 

"I would like to express my gratitude to the International Commission on Missing Persons for their response, support and willingness to resolve all issues rather swiftly, no matter how complex they may be. This confirms yet again the effectiveness and functionality of your organization. You have gained extensive experience in many countries around the world, something we find extremely useful," – said Ihor Klymenko, addressing the partners. 

In her turn, Kathryne Bomberger, the Director-General of the International Commission on Missing Persons, stressed a commitment to continue providing all necessary assistance to the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. She also praised the effectiveness of cooperation with the agency, as well as the efficiency and professionalism of the Ukrainian experts. 

"We understand the challenges you are facing and the tedious work you are doing. We stand by your side and provide you with an absolute support. It is a great honour for us to be your partners in this great work. And we will do our utmost to provide you with all the assistance you may need - knowledge, experience and equipment," – stated Kathryne Bomberger.

At the same time, the Minister pointed out that all the equipment provided is properly accounted for and used exclusively for its intended purpose. 

"We understand that social stability in the post-war society depends on the efficiency of our performance. And we are talking about establishing a transparent system in this regard. This meeting will help us clarify the gradual nature of our further steps so that we can properly allocate both human and technical capacities," – said Ihor Klymenko. 

Furthermore, the parties discussed the steps of future cooperation. In particular, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine emphasized that the issue of persons gone missing under special circumstances will be on the agenda of the Global Peace Summit to be held in Switzerland soon. 

The parties signed a Memorandum on Cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the International Commission on Missing Persons to consolidate their intention to collaborate.

"I want to wish you success in this work. The whole world is with you, and you will certainly succeed. We, for our part, express our full support," – summed up Kathryne Bomberger, the Director-General of the Commission.
