The Ministry of Internal Affairs becomes the main body in coordinating the search for missing persons under special circumstances

The Ministry of Internal Affairs launches the Hotline of the Commissioner for Missing Persons in Special Circumstances. This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko.

“From October 1, the Ministry of the Interior launches the Hotline of the Commissioner for Missing Persons in Special Circumstances. The hotline number is 0800103333. Operators will provide information on the work of the Unified Register of Missing Persons under special circumstances. They will also advise the relatives of the missing and form questionnaires to the Commissioner for Missing Persons under special circumstances,” Ihor Klymenko noted.

As of September 29, 2023, the Unified Register of Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances contains 9692 entries. The Ministry of Internal Affairs issued 9538 extracts.

“Together, we will do everything possible to facilitate the search for every Ukrainian. Anyone who disappeared as a result of Russian aggression!” . - noted Igor Klymenko.

“It will contain key information on the search for persons, interaction with the Ministry of Defense and the Coordination Headquarters on the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Our key task is to provide all the necessary information, because trust in the Register and, accordingly, the number of appeals is constantly growing,” the Minister stressed.

During October, 2199 calls were received to the Commissioner's hotline - an average of 91 per day. Specialists processed 12,526 requests and issued 11,736 extracts. Of these, 88 are for children.

“Now the Ministry of Internal Affairs is the main body responsible for the registration and search of persons missing under special circumstances since October 2023. At the moment, it has been possible to establish communication with the families of the missing under special conditions in a short time,” the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine said in a final interview with the Rada TV channel.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs, according to the Minister, is working with the International Committee of Missing Persons and will soon announce the acceptance of applications from citizens who are abroad in EU countries and want to donate DNA. In order for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which are engaged in both the search for these persons and the establishment through DNA comparison, to have more information about the missing and the circumstances of their disappearance, the Ministry of Internal Affairs introduced a clarifying questionnaire from December this year. It has already been used by 1600 citizens of Ukraine, whose relatives have disappeared.
