This was agreed today, July 19, by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the UN Children's Fund, UNICEF.

Deputy Minister of the Interior Mary Akopian and Head of UNICEF Mission in Ukraine Murat Shahin, who led the delegations, discussed the issue of preparing educational institutions for the new academic year. The parties agreed to conduct a joint information campaign on mine safety and emergency management rules. In addition, UNICEF will help in the institutionalization of the project “Educator for Safety in the Educational Environment”.

“I am grateful for the effort you are making today. We have already carried out several information campaigns together. But awareness of mine safety, both in parents and children today, is very low. Soon we have the first of September and we must be ready to adapt the safety component to the educational program in schools,” said Mary Akopian.

Also, the deputy minister said that today the Government is working to attract a maximum of schoolchildren to study offline. Both the Ministry of Internal Affairs and local authorities are making every effort to create safe conditions for children to learn.

Representatives of the UN Children's Fund spoke about the projects they have been implementing since the beginning of the martial law in Ukraine to support Ukrainian families. They also assured that they will continue to support initiatives on child safety.

“UNICEF was with Ukraine before the war, we remain with you now, under the conditions of martial law, and we will stay with you even further. I want to say that we are committed to helping the Ukrainian people. And we intend to do this in the future,” said Murat Shakhin, head of the UNICEF Mission in Ukraine.

For reference: A safety educator is a civilian whose task is to identify and stop offenses within an educational institution, participate in preventive measures and make proposals to strengthen a safe educational environment. In the conditions of martial law, the functionality of such a specialist should expand significantly.
