The Ministry of Internal Affairs together with the National Police held a training on combating domestic violence for OCU chaplains
In Kyiv, a training was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in cooperation with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, in cooperation with the National Police on raising awareness of chaplains and future chaplains on combating domestic violence and human trafficking, as well as for effective communication with the community in cases of domestic violence and trafficking people.
The problem of domestic violence during war does not become less important. Often people bring their problems to spiritual mentors, priests or chaplains, seeking compassion and empathy there, asking for advice and guidance.
For the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the issue of combating domestic violence and human trafficking has been and remains a priority. One of the elements of effective response and detection of such crimes is cooperation with various actors, in particular with religious organizations, because it is extremely important that the affected persons are able to receive the full range of assistance guaranteed by the state, despite military actions.
The following topics were discussed during the training:
• familiarization with the general principles of prevention and counteraction of domestic violence, the main areas of work of state bodies in the field of prevention and counteraction of domestic violence.
• familiarization with the general principles of combating trafficking in human beings, the main directions of work of state bodies in this area.
• Familiarize yourself with the role, place and powers of the police in the system of providing comprehensive assistance to persons, including children affected by domestic violence and trafficking in human beings.
• Developing communication skills and counselling for those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking.
In total, 12 chaplains and 30 students of the Kiev Orthodox Theological Academy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine took part in the training.
