The Ministry of Internal Affairs is counting on partnership with UN structures to strengthen the capacities of effective response to modern challenges — Denis Monastyrsky
During today's meeting at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine D. Monastyrsky congratulated Denise Brown on her recent appointment as UN System Coordinator in Ukraine and Humanitarian Coordinator, expressing gratitude for the implementation of joint projects and support of UN structures aimed at developing, strengthening and reforming the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Minister noted the high efficiency of cooperation in the framework of international technical assistance projects carried out with most bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system.
D. Monastyrsky welcomed the initiative of the transitional program of the UN partnership with Ukraine for the period of 2023, taking into account the significant change in the situation in our country. In the Minister's view, this document should clearly define the current priority issues for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in particular, humanitarian demining, identification of dead persons, security of nuclear facilities, response to cyber risks and threats, countering gender-based violence, sexual violence related to conflict, exploitation, assault, trafficking, etc.
The Minister informed the interviewee about the activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs aimed at minimizing current challenges and threats, including work on the creation of a legislative basis and a technical solution for the functioning of the registry of civilian weapons, strengthening the capabilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system for the purpose of humanitarian demining and initiating qualifications psychological support to the population as a whole and employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who were affected by traumatic events, the formation of a safe environment for children, etc.
D. Monastyrsky expressed hope that further close cooperation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and UN agencies in Ukraine will become a reliable tool for strengthening the law enforcement system of the state.
It should be noted that in 2022, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, together with the central executive authorities, is implementing six international technical assistance projects with UN agencies in Ukraine. The total estimated cost of these projects is more than US$85 million.
