This and other topics in the first live broadcast of the “Ministry of Internal Affairs Podcast” were discussed by representatives of the Department of Communications of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Mariana Reva and Denis Sokolov with Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko and Deputy Head of the National Police Andriy Nebitov.

During the week, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine collected from subscribers of social networks the most common questions related to the introduction of a unified video monitoring system in Ukraine. The relevant draft law was recently submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.

As it turned out, one of the most popular questions of citizens is “Will I be followed”. They say, as soon as a person leaves his entrance, the camera will turn on and video surveillance will begin behind it. Meanwhile, a special person will sit at the monitor and record step by step every action of the Ukrainian.

According to Leonid Timchenko, a single video surveillance system is needed first of all for effective and quick detection of criminals. “When a person goes out into the street, of course, they immediately fall into the cameras.

However, the collection of information primarily includes citizens who are wanted or have committed an offense. We are not interested in decent people who also walk and are where CCTV cameras are installed,” said Leonid Timchenko.

First of all, the National Police of Ukraine will monitor public safety. According to Andrei Nebitov, video monitoring is one of the components of ensuring a comfortable life and a safe environment.

“National police units have direct access to 37,000 cameras. They are used to ensure public safety and identify offenders. Of course, these data are also used by investigators as evidence of criminal activity or administrative offenses. These are data that help to very quickly create orientation and detain the criminal behind the hot trail,” said Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine Andriy Niebitov.
