Today, May 30, with the participation of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ekaterina Pavlichenko, representatives of the departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and IOM in Ukraine took place. The parties discussed the expansion of the partnership and identified future priorities.

Kateryna Pavlichenko thanked the Head of the IOM Mission in Ukraine for the sustained support of the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during the humanitarian and migration crisis. She told the partners about the multi-component project “Safe Country”, on which the Ministry of Internal Affairs is currently working.

“The concept of a safe country is aimed at strengthening security in various areas, in particular in territorial communities and at borders. Security in these areas is definitely important, both during the war and during the reconstruction period,” the Deputy Minister stressed.

The project “Security of territorial communities” includes the creation of “Security Centers” in the communities, where police, medics and rescuers will work. Currently, 42 such Centers have been established in Ukraine. One of them, unfortunately, is destroyed, another is in the temporarily occupied territory.

“We understand that now more than ever the project needs to be scaled up. After all, we focus on creating the most service services for people in the de-occupied territories. This applies in particular to the restoration of documents”, - emphasized Kateryna Pavlichenko.

The project “Secure Border” aims to introduce European principles of integrated border management, strengthen the protection of Ukrainian-Russian and Ukrainian-Belarusian border sections, air monitoring and state border security at sea.

In turn, the Head of the IOM Mission in Ukraine An Nguyen assured that the activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs fully coincide with the priorities and values of the International Organization for Migration:

“We have established close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, DMS, DPSU and NPU to counteract various forms of human trafficking. At the same time, together with the International Center for the Development of Migration Policy, we work for us by adapting Ukrainian legislation to the standards of EU law. We are also ready to join the process of integrating veterans from the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs into civilian life.”

According to the DPSU representative, a significant factor that is now manifested on the borders, including the western ones, is the illegal movement of weapons, ammunition and their parts. Therefore, it is important for us to strengthen the monitoring capabilities, both at and outside the checkpoints, which is part of the Safe Border project.

It is also worth noting that together with foreign colleagues, Ukrainian police officers carry out work to expose international criminal groups that involve individuals in illegal activities abroad.
