The Ministry of Internal Affairs joins the eighth session of the Human Rights Dialogue between Ukraine and the EU
On April 26, the eighth meeting of the Dialogue on Human Rights between Ukraine and the EU took place. The parties discussed the violation of international law in the field of human rights and humanitarian law as a result of Russia's full-scale invasion and military aggression against Ukraine.
As part of the Ukrainian delegation, Deputy Minister Kateryna Pavlichenko informed the EU side about the documentation and investigation of criminal proceedings on the facts of the Russian military committing crimes related to the armed conflict, including crimes of sexual violence on the territory of Ukraine, and stressed the importance of integrity the correctness of the punishment for every crime committed in Ukraine.
During the meeting, Kateryna Pavlichenko announced the continuation of the project on the introduction of the system of registration of detainees “Custody records”, ensuring the functioning of specialized units responsible for monitoring the observance of human rights in the activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the police.
Separately, the Deputy Minister highlighted the situation with the rights of persons with disabilities. She spoke about the implementation in the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the National Strategy for creating a barrier-free space in Ukraine, in particular about the launch of large-scale pilot projects by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the introduction of innovative technologies for people with various forms of disability.
In addition, the parties discussed the issues of cooperation on the protection of children's rights, ensuring the protection of the rights and freedoms of Ukrainians who have been granted temporary protection in the EU. Participants drew attention to the problem of preventing cases of discrimination and the need to settle this issue at the legislative level.
Repeatedly during the dialogue, the participants of the meeting stressed that the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine has a serious negative impact on the human rights situation. This applies to various categories of citizens, including internally displaced persons, as well as citizens who have received temporary protection in EU countries. The most vulnerable category of citizens are children, as well as people with disabilities. However, the state bodies of Ukraine are trying to ensure the highest possible level of human rights protection in accordance with international obligations.
