Today, November 18, in the Hall of Remembrance of the National Holodomor-Genocide Museum, Deputy Minister of the Interior Mary Akopian handed over copies of declassified archival criminal cases from the Sectoral State Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which were initiated on the facts of cannibalism, the collection of spikes, as well as against those who who resisted the communist totalitarian regime in 1932-1933.

“Exactly 90 years since the atrocity against the Ukrainian nation was committed, which was aimed at the terrible bullying and execution of an entire people. Then the world community did not react to these events. And today we have a continuation of this story. Archival documents and criminal cases about those events have been kept secret for a long time, and now is the right time to release all the facts of the Holodomor. An unpunished criminal always returns to his criminal intentions,” said Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mary Akopyan.

For the third year in a row within the Memorandum of Cooperation and Understanding between the Holodomor Museum and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry promotes the formation of museum and library funds by transferring copies of archival documents that will take their place in the museum collection of the second stage of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide, the construction of which will be completed soon.

“Today we have a continuation of this story: during the current invasion war, 43,000 criminal cases regarding war crimes of the Russian army have already been recorded, among these cases in the last few days we have recorded and opened 237 criminal cases in the Kherson region. Just yesterday I was there and visited one of the torture sessions that Russian servicemen organized on the territory of the city of Kherson. It is possible to draw a parallel between the events of the present and they will be no different from the events of 1932-1933. I am sure that with such cohesion and strength, which we show today, we will be able to fill our museums with truth, which will become a weighty grain for the right conclusions made by humanity,” said the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system on an ongoing basis carry out the selection, preservation and digitization of historical documents that are in the funds of the state archive in order to preserve the truth for future generations. “We are handing over electronic and paper copies of six more cases from the Sectoral State Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the archival issue of the newspaper “In the Name of the Law”, which is dedicated to the Holodomor-genocide issue provided by the NASU Museum. These materials are of exceptional historical value because, using the example of personal documented stories of Holodomor victims, they testify to the scale of the crime, debunk Soviet-Russian myths about the Holodomor, confirm the fact of genocide directed against the Ukrainian nation, and reveal the mechanisms of its perpetration. It is important that on February 24, one of the first decisions that were taken by the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was to export the archive, and it is thanks to this that today we keep in our hands these documents, which were not lost then and are not lost today,” the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine noted.
