The update of the directions of interaction taking into account the realities of the war was discussed today, May 26, during the meeting of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mary Akopian with the Head of the Delegation of the International Organization for Migration in Ukraine Anom Nguyen.

Mary Akopian emphasized that the partnership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and IOM over the years has contributed to the improvement of the work of the National Police, the State Border Guard Service and the State Migration Service and the fulfillment of their tasks. However, under the conditions of the military invasion of the Russian Federation, new topical tasks are assigned to the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. And the IOM's desire to continue to help is sincerely appreciated in the Department.

“We are glad to see you aiming to fulfill the tasks that we faced during the period of opposition to Russian armed aggression. We are grateful to the courageous team of the IOM Mission in Ukraine, which has not left our country during this difficult time, and is responding to our priorities and needs, which have changed in accordance with the military realities,” the Deputy Minister said.

At the same time, An Nguyen assured of his readiness to support the Ministry of Internal Affairs, both in military circumstances and in the future.

“We are ready to communicate to our partners the expediency of redirecting financial flows, in accordance with the situation and today's measures to protect Ukrainian citizens and ensure the rule of law,” said the Head of the Delegation of the International Organization for Migration in Ukraine.

After analyzing the previous achievements and projects launched in the pre-war period, the parties identified the most priority areas of interaction, in accordance with the consequences and risks caused by the war. In particular, it was about restoring the work of units of the National Police, the State Emergency Service, the State Border Guard Service, the State Migration Service in the liberated territories, providing them with equipment, primarily automobile, which was either lost or damaged as a result of hostilities.

At the same time, cooperation in the framework of facilitating the return of Ukrainian citizens is defined as an important direction: projects on reintegration, documentation of Ukrainians who are outside Ukraine due to the war through the migration service representative offices. It should be noted that the organization of activities of the branch of the State Enterprise “Dokument” in Warsaw is currently underway.

Separately, it was discussed the need of the National Police and the DNEDC of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for DNA laboratories and reagents for conducting examinations, which will contribute to the investigation of war crimes of the Russian Federation, and the need of the DMS to modernize information and telecommunication systems for managing migration processes.

The Parties also paid attention to the implementation of preventive measures to prevent crimes such as trafficking in human beings and sexual violence, the increased risk of which is characteristic of wartime.

Agreements were reached to continue cooperation in each of the areas discussed with the relevant departments. At the same time, the parties also outlined the prospects for cooperation after the end of the war or the abolition of martial law in Ukraine.
