The State Migration Service of Ukraine currently does not consider citizenship documents from Russians, the migration policy regarding citizens of Belarus has not changed. Natalia Naumenko, Head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine, stated during a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center.

“For citizens of Russia and Belarus, a pause was made. So far, the migration policy for citizens of Belarus has not changed. We will renew the acceptance of documents. As for Russian citizens, those who already have temporary or permanent residence permits, they can continue to use them and stay in our country. However, as for the issuance of new ones, the DMS together with law enforcement agencies monitor the situation and check whether they pose a danger to our state. To single out those who may commit any criminal acts against our country. However, we understand that this issue needs to be refined. At the moment, there is a document in working order that will explain how we work with Russian citizens further,” she said.

Natalia Naumenko added that foreigners fighting for Ukraine use a simplified procedure for obtaining citizenship:

“First of all, we are talking about those who have signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a military ID is already a temporary residence permit. There are quite a few options to legalize foreign volunteers on the territory of Ukraine. Such a person should contact the DMS. At the same time, we are constantly in contact with the Ministry of Defense and if they transmit information about a specific person, we contribute to its registration as much as possible.”
