“We defend ours by right”: a guard with the nickname “Lisnyk” about the fighting near Novomykhailivka
On February 25, Lisnyk was already in the military enlistment office, and the next day he was assigned to part of the National Guard.
“I already had combat experience, so there were no doubts about the decision made,” says guard Alexander with the nickname “Forester”.
One of the military positions was located in the area of Novomykhailivka, in the Donetsk region. This direction was one of the hottest, because the Russians did not abandon constant attempts to break through the defenses.
“The shelling could start early in the morning and continue until late at night. Despite this, we continued to strengthen our position,” recalls “The Forester”.
He notes that for the infantry, whose task was performed by the NGU unit, the presence of fortified positions is extremely important and makes it possible to preserve the life of personnel.
“Now the fighting is going on in a completely different way — from the Russians there are constant artillery shelling and offensive attempts,” the military said.
In May, the “Forester” had to meet the enemy face to face.
“They tried to seize our position in close combat. They started throwing trenches with grenades to kill us or force us to surrender. But the enemy's plan did not work — they were destroyed. It was such emotions, they were nothing to compare with - when we learned that we had cut off almost a platoon of Russians in a matter of minutes. There was only one storm left of their assault unit, hid from us in the depth of the position and fired for some time. After the battle, I realized that I had been wounded in the leg,” says the “Forester”.
I realized the severity of the injury when I saw a blood-soaked tissue. Waiting for medical help, he imposed a tourniquet. It was at this time, in the evening, that the shelling began again. Alexander could not go alone, he had to crawl to the nearest shelter. It was impossible to understand where the shells were flying from and where, he admits, at some point he clenched his teeth and squeezed a grenade in his hand. I understood that if the Russians come, we will have to act without hesitation. He was ready to destroy the cursed invaders at the cost of his life.
“I always thought about my children, about the little ones. I thought I would see them, how I would hug them. These thoughts helped me to hold on and not lose hope,” says the guard.
“In a few hours the shelling ended and I heard voices. They walked between the branches, booed and asked if anyone was wounded after the fight. After the code word, I spoke, I understood - my own,” the man says.
Alexander was evacuated to a district hospital, and later to a military hospital for further treatment.
“And how else? We did not come to their land, we defend ours”, emphasizes the “Forester”.
