Currently, more than 30% of Ukraine's territory has been mined and we will overcome this unprecedented challenge together with our partners. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Mary Akopian during a joint briefing with the High Representative of the EU, Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrel in Kyiv region.

“We estimate that 30 percent of the territory of Ukraine is polluted, it is 174 thousand square kilometers. I am very grateful for the attention to the problem and the new tranche of aid of 25 million euros that will be used to purchase equipment. So far, for 11 months, our personnel have been working with manual equipment, and it is practically impossible to clear thousands of hectares of farmland, walk, with manual equipment,” said Mary Akopian.

The Deputy Minister noted that the issue of demining is the first issue of the safety of our citizens, as well as the restoration of our economic potential, agricultural potential.

“There is also the issue of underwater mining, now we are working to prepare specialists who will work underwater. We estimate this volume of work up to 10 years and this is an optimistic forecast,” added Mary Akopian.

She thanked the international partners for the provided equipment and training for the personnel.

“I am grateful that additional funds are allocated to the 18 million that we already have in our work since last year. And I hope that this unprecedented challenge that exists in our country will be overcome together with our partners,” said Mary Akopian.
