On the initiative of the state leadership and with the participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Police in Ukraine, the project “Officers of the Educational Security Service” is being implemented. It was created to protect children in the face of a full-scale war and to form a full-fledged safety environment after its completion. The idea to strengthen protection arose, among other things, due to the increase in cases of detection of the fact of the circulation of illegal weapons and ammunition.
“The officer of the Educational Security Service is not a security guard, but a professional official who, together with the administration of the educational institution, will be responsible for the entire range of security measures, starting with the admission of children to the school premises. Citizens of Ukraine should clearly understand that the safety of our children is the security of our state”, - emphasizes the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko.
480 educational security officers have already entered the service in Ukrainian educational institutions. The work of one of the educational security officers was shown on the television marathon “United News”.
There they covered the policeman Valentin, who serves in the Gostomel Lyceum in the Kiev region. The man has shackles, tear gas, a rubber mallet, firearms and a metal detector with him. Thanks to these special tools, the law enforcement officer checks suspicious persons.
Children are not checked by educational security officers. However, students can contact a police officer for help at any time.
“If the student found any offense or got into an unpleasant situation. This is, for example, psychological bullying or bullying. The educational security officer reports this to a child psychologist or the administration of the educational institution. They are fixed and the child is helped,” says Valentine.
In addition, the police officer monitors the security situation in the educational institution with the help of video surveillance cameras. They are located at the entrance, in the corridors and the dining room. In the classrooms - there is no video surveillance.
In the event of danger or detection by the police of a suspicious person, he can only call for help by pressing the alarm button. A police crew immediately arrives on the call. Their task is to inspect the territory, identify the violator and conduct a conversation with him.
Officers of the educational security service were specially trained within the framework of the pilot project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. 480 people from all over the country were carefully selected and special courses for work in educational institutions.
“Particular attention was paid to the psychological state of the police officer, his ability to communicate with children. Particular attention is paid to the topic of bullying, as well as warnings about violations that may occur in educational institutions. The basics of providing first aid were also provided,” said Deputy Head of the Department of Security Police of Kyiv region Viktor Veklych.
There is always one officer on duty in an educational institution. The task is to monitor security. The schools in which educational security officers will work were chosen by the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The list includes educational institutions near the Russian and Belarusian borders, in cities close to the combat zone and in the de-occupied territories.
Law enforcement officers entered service in more than 400 schools in 9 regions.
