On December 5, 2022, Russia launched one of the most massive attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. According to the Air Force Command, the enemy launched more than 70 missiles. Although air defense forces shot down most of the Russian missiles, there were problems with light and water in some areas.

As a result of the attack:

  • Sumy region was left without electricity supply. An emergency shutdown of light has been introduced in the region.
  • In Odessa, all pumping stations were de-energized, backup lines were suspended, the work of public electric transport was suspended. As a result of the impact, two infrastructure objects were damaged, residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged. Two people were injured.
  • In Krivoy Rog, part of the city was left without light. Some boiler and pumping stations were not working.
  • In Zhytomyr and in some settlements of the region there was a partial lack of electricity. In the city there were interruptions with water supply.
  • In Kropyvnytskyi, interruptions in the supply of water and electricity were recorded. To provide people with water, its phased supply was organized.
  • In Kiev, the metro has limited work. The subway was used as a shelter, disembarkation of passengers at some stations was not carried out.

According to Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal, Russia tried to plunge Ukraine into darkness and cold. However, the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with energy and other services were ready for criminal actions of the enemy. Thanks to the coordinated and clear work of our services, we were able to keep the security situation under control.

Previously, “Inviolability Points” were arranged so that everyone could warm up there, drink water or tea, use the Internet and charge gadgets.

During the light cuts, the police informed the population about the “Air Alarm” via loudspeakers, regulated traffic on the roads and increased the number of patrols to increase security on the streets.

The National Guard was actively involved in patrolling and protecting critical infrastructure facilities, rescuers effectively eliminated the consequences of shelling, and the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs adapted to new realities in order to promptly provide services to the population.

December 16, 2022

On this day, Russian occupiers fired 76 missiles at critical infrastructure of Ukraine, 60 of which were shot down by Ukraine's air defenses. From the areas of the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea, the enemy launched 72 cruise missiles X-101, X-22 and Caliber over Ukraine. Four guided air-base missiles, the X-59 and the X-31P, were also launched.

More than 40 missiles were witnessed in the area of Kyiv, 37 of which were shot down by the air defense forces. It was one of the most massive missile attacks on the Ukrainian capital during the entire period of Russia's full-scale invasion.

December 29, 2022

At 8 a.m., the Russian military attacked Ukraine with kamikaze drones, cruise missiles from ships and strategic bombers, as well as S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles. Air defense forces shot down 54 of 69 Russian missiles.

December 31, 2022

At 12:20 a massive rocket attack with long-range missiles began in Ukraine. During the air alert, an estimated 20 Russian missiles were in the airspace. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported:

Kyiv, Mykolaiv region, Zaporizhia, Khmelnytskyi region, Donetsk region... Today, once again, the enemy decided to remind us all why we hate them so much. Throughout the day, rescuers were dealing with the effects of Russian attacks. A
total of 50 objects were damaged, including 32 residential buildings, 28 people were injured and one woman was killed.

January 14, 2023

The consequences of the hit of a Russian cruise missile X-22 on a residential building in Dnipro. X-101/X-555, X-22 cruise missiles, Kalibr cruise missiles and X-59 guided air missiles were used. In addition, 48H6DM missiles from the S-400 anti-aircraft complex were used for the first time to strike Kiev from the Bryansk region.

In the morning, a massive rocket attack with long-range missiles began in Ukraine. There are intrusions into energy and industrial facilities of Ukraine. Significant destruction of residential buildings. It is reported that 38 missiles were fired that day, of which 25 were shot down.

As a result of the missile strikes, 9 TPP units, 3 main substations and an air line were damaged. In particular, the turbine hall of the power unit of one of DTEK's thermal power plants was destroyed. The power system remained intact, but due to a significant shortage of generation, emergency shutdowns had to be applied.

In particular, powerful explosions on the afternoon of January 14 thundered in the capital, Kiev, Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky regions.

According to preliminary data, air defense has worked almost everywhere, destroying enemy missiles, but hits on residential buildings and critical infrastructure have also been recorded.

Russia launched a powerful missile strike on a residential building in Dnipro. As a result of the enemy attack, the entrance of an apartment building was destroyed. 236 apartments were destroyed, more than 400 people were left without housing. 44 people died, including 5 children, 79 people were injured, including 16 children.

January 26, 2023

The attack began on the night of January 25-26 with a massive attack of the Shahed 136 UAV. All 24 aircraft were shot down, but hits were recorded in the Kiev region: 5 residential buildings and 7 objects and structures were damaged, 40 cars were damaged.

The second wave happened at dawn: explosions were heard in Odessa, Nikolaev, Vinnitsa and Kyiv region, bombings were witnessed in Vinnitsa, Odessa, Kyiv.

The enemy attacked Ukraine from Tu-95MS, Su-35 and MiG-31K aircraft and ships from the Black Sea. The cruise missiles X-101, X-555, X-59, Caliber and X-47 Dagger hypersonic missiles were used. The enemy also shelled critical infrastructure facilities in the Zaporizhzhya region with missiles from the S-300.

The Ukrainian Air Defense Forces and Air Defense Forces shot down 47 missiles out of 55, with 20 of them around the capital, and three of the four X-59 missiles failed to reach their targets.

Due to the missile attack of the enemy, emergency light outages have been introduced in some areas. Kyiv, Odessa and Vinnytsia regions suffered the most from attacks by Russians on energy facilities.

As of the 15th hour, 11 dead and 11 injured are known as a result of the attack.

As a result of missile attacks and hostilities as of the end of January 2023, there was a generation deficit of up to 5 GW in the electrical system of Ukraine during peak hours of consumption (morning and evening), and at night the deficit was about 3 GW. In the occupied territories there were generating capacities of up to 10 GW.

February 10, 2023

The Russian military launched another massive missile strike on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine (the 14th mass strike according to the Prime Minister of Ukraine). The Armed Forces reported the launch of 71 missiles on Ukrainian critical infrastructure, 61 of which were shot down by air defenses.

The shelling began on the night of 9-10 February 2023 with mass launches of the Shahed 136 Kamikaze UAV. Missiles from the S-300 air defense system were also hit on a critical infrastructure facility in Zaporizhzhya district. Technical equipment and structures were destroyed. Missiles flew into Moldovan airspace.

February 16, 2023

On February 16, 2023, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian military launched another massive missile strike on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. On the night of February 16, Russia fired 36 missiles at Ukraine, the air defense system destroyed 16 of them.

In total, 36 missiles were used in the strike (12 cruise missiles X-101/X-555 airbase, 8 cruise missiles “Caliber”, 12 cruise missiles X-22 air-based anti-ship missiles, 3 guided aircraft missiles X-59/31, 1 anti-ship missile “Oni” Kx”). Tu-22M3 and Tu-95MS strategic aviation aircraft from the Kursk region and the Caspian Sea, respectively, Su-35 tactical aircraft from the area of the temporarily occupied Melitopol and cruise missile carriers in the Black Sea were used for the launches.

March 9, 2023

The massive rocket attack was carried out at night (early in the morning) on March 9, 2023. In total, the Russian military launched 81 missiles of various types and bases, and 8 kamikaze drones.

According to the Air Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a record number of X-47 Dagger hypersonic missiles were used during this shelling.

The Ukrainian defense forces destroyed 34 cruise missiles, as well as 4 drones.

As a result of the impact, Zaporizhzhya NPP lost external power for the sixth time, and went into emergency mode with power from diesel generators.
