Lviv police exposed a criminal “scheme” of importing cars under the guise of rubber aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The “scheme” of illegal sale of cars was exposed by the operatives of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in the Lviv region and the investigators of the Investigative Department of the Regional Police.
The criminal scheme was organized by a local resident and involved a previously convicted of fraud to it. The second attacker, through charitable organizations, imported vehicles from abroad under the guise of humanitarian assistance for the needs of the Armed Forces. According to this “scheme” the attacker managed to transport about 20 pickups with zero customs clearance. However, instead of sending them to the front, he sold them to residents of Lviv and other regions for cash.
During the attempt to import two more cars from the EU through the checkpoint in Lviv region, the operatives and investigators detained the henchman of the organizer of the “scheme”; at the place of detention, he was seized 17,400 US dollars and pickups.
In addition, at the place of residence of the defendants in the case, law enforcement officers found customs declarations on cars, other documentation on the transportation of cars across the state border according to the developed criminal scheme, mobile phones, “rough” records and five vehicles registered as rubber cargo for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On the basis of the evidence received, the organizer of the “scheme” was informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 201-2 (illegal use for the purpose of obtaining profit of humanitarian aid, charitable donations or gratuitous assistance) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The question of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is resolved.
After carrying out the necessary procedural measures, legal qualification will be provided to the actions of the manual. The pre-trial investigation continues under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
For an offender, an offender can face from five to seven years in prison.
