Flood relief: Ukrainian emergency workers train in Poland

International field training “New Wave 2023” continues in the Polish city of Novy Dwer-Mazowiecki. Ukrainian rescuers also take part in them. The purpose of the exercises is to work out the actions of rescue teams within the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism during the elimination of the consequences of the flood.

Among the participants are representatives of high-power flood control modules from Poland, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland. The Ukrainian module consisted of 36 rescuers and 9 units of equipment.

On the eve of the training, the Director General of the European Commission's Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) Matsei Popowski and representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland visited. They joined the Ukrainian module and talked with the rescuers of the State Emergency Service.

Training “New Wave 2023” will last until September 8. At this time, representatives of the European anti-flood modules are working out actions during the threat of flooding along the Narva and Vistula rivers.

In addition, they evacuate people by rescue boats, pump water from flooded areas, and deliver food for local residents. Training takes place continuously, including at night. Each team works in separate locations.
