To date, various video monitoring complexes have already been deployed on the territory of Ukraine — both local and regional levels. Also, video surveillance cameras are integrated at the central level into the integration platform of the National Police, which currently combines 9 regions and is expanding further.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Leonid Tymchenko in an interview with “Ukrainian News”.

“As for the response, the video surveillance cameras allow you to quickly track the movement of vehicles or the movement of a suspicious citizen, or someone who is wanted,” the deputy minister said.

According to him, today there are intelligent cameras that allow you to collect facial features and establish if there are matches with those citizens who are wanted.

“Immediately there is an information to the employee who is responsible for the search for persons,” the official explained.

He also said that in total in Ukraine there are currently about 40 thousand video surveillance cameras, not counting the temporarily occupied territories. “And this is about a third of the need,” the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes.

At the same time, Leonid Tymchenko noted that if we talk about the necessary number of video cameras so that “we are safe”, then such a number does not exist.

“There are cases when a person at a certain moment decided to commit a crime, and he does not think about the CCTV camera,” the official said.

Leonid Timchenko assured that video surveillance systems are protected from outside interference, including the enemy.

“Our video surveillance systems do not allow you to configure hidden access to information. I am sure that if someone wants to get such access, it is not done through the system,” he said.

At the same time, according to him, there are more than 250 cameras for self-fixing violations of traffic rules on Ukrainian roads.

“It is planned that by the end of the half of the year additional cameras will be installed, which were previously purchased. In total, there will be more than 300,” the deputy minister added.

This amount, he says, is also not enough.

“How much do you need? Much more, because we are talking about the preservation of lives,” said Leonid Tymchenko.
