Leonid Timchenko on how to protect yourself from cyber fraudsters and where to turn to expose them
Today, there are a very large number of recommendations for citizens on how to protect themselves from cyber fraudsters, Internet fraud, etc. A certain thing is not to follow a third-party link, which everyone is repeatedly warned about, including the cyber police. But there are simpler and no less effective ways. The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko told about this on the YouTube channel “Diya”.
“There are many recommendations on this, but the basic one is that you never have to pay money up front. Today, if we talk about any delivery, every citizen can first verify that he received exactly what he wants, and not, say, a piece of brick instead of a phone,” says Leonid Timchenko.
Also regarding malicious links, there are actually a lot of their varieties. They can steal all the information and all the passwords that are stored on the device. Your device can also be infected and used as a bot. A certain thing, the main thing is not to act thoughtlessly and increase cyberliteracy.
The Deputy Minister drew attention that today, unfortunately, the grief that people have is widely used by fraudsters. They actually study the market very seriously and study the demand. And if something is needed urgently, then immediately place an ad and distribute it quickly.
“For example, when there is a big snowfall and everyone urgently needs snow removal machines, there are immediately ads for the sale of such with a 30-50% discount. Fraudsters ask to pay 30% or even the entire amount, otherwise the goods will get to others. These are fraudsters who enjoy the high demand of consumers, - warns the Deputy Minister.
In order not to become a victim of any fraud, citizens should be aware that nothing is free.
There is an effective mechanism to combat fraudsters: “Today it is possible to submit an electronic appeal through the cyber police website (https://cyberpolice.gov.ua/). Provide all the information, save and attach screenshots about a certain resource that bothers you or that you consider fraudulent,” Timchenko recalled.
