“First of all, every gun owner gets the opportunity to go into the personal account of a citizen, verify himself, see the weapon that is registered with this citizen today, establish the correspondence of this weapon to the information that is in the register. And most importantly, it is necessary to note that a citizen through his personal account will be able to obtain information about the validity period of his permit,” the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko said on the air of the all-Ukrainian television marathon “United News”.

He also noted that for the extension of the permit, it is necessary to apply only when the expiration date of such a permit expires. That is, if a citizen, for example, received his paper permit in the form of a “booklet” on June 22, 2023, this does not mean that from tomorrow with the launch of the electronic Unified Register of Weapons there is a need to contact the police authorities or business entities to change such a permit.

“In fact, we can say that in full the Register of Weapons will work when every citizen changes his old permit to use weapons,” said Leonid Tymchenko.

In particular, the Deputy Minister noted that the beginning of the work of such a register will not concern the registration of trophy weapons. This issue is decided by lawmakers today. It has not yet been settled.

“The introduction of this registry is primarily caused by the digitalization process. From now on, the citizen will no longer need to contact the police directly, he will be able to provide the necessary information and copies of his documents online without contacting the arms control authorities. Also in the future, we plan to move away from paper documentation on the circulation of weapons as much as possible or completely,” says Timchenko.

The Deputy Minister also said that the start of the operation of the Unified Register of Weapons will in no way affect the price of the service: “The cost remains unchanged. It is determined by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers since 2007. A citizen will be able to attach the payment receipt electronically to the package of documents that he submits for permission online.”

“Regarding the introduction of this functionality into Action, such a function will be available in the near future. After all, together with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, we are working in this direction and plan that this autumn the registry will be integrated with Dia,” Leonid Tymchenko summed up.
