Suspicion reported to convoy of prisoners in Kherson

The criminal is a 20-year-old citizen of Russia — a serviceman of the 50 separate operational brigade of the federal service of the troops of the National Guard of the Russian Federation.

It is established that during the temporary occupation of Kherson, he served as a convoy escort in the Kativna created by the Russian invaders.

The Russian not only ensured the illegal imprisonment of civilians, but also committed inhumane treatment of the latter.

In particular, the police identified four Kherson civilians who were illegally imprisoned in torture chambers at different periods during the occupation. Men were restricted in food and water. They were also not provided with hygiene items or the opportunity to take a shower and were kept in debilitating unsanitary conditions for the human body, unsuitable for a person's long stay.

The duties of the defendant included guarding the prison chambers and convoying detainees for interrogation. At the same time, the Russian national guard, while accompanying the victims, used psychological and physical violence against them. In the offices for interrogations of illegally detained peaceful Kherson, the occupiers with the use of torture and torture tried to extract confessions about their involvement in cooperation with the Armed Forces or to find out information about the participants of territorial defense and other residents of the city.

After returning the prisoners to the holding chambers, the defendant never took measures to provide the victims with medical care.

In addition, on the night of June 17-18, 2022, the convoy along with several other Russian military entered the chamber, where three Kherson citizens were being held. The occupiers began to brutally beat the 42-year-old man, and the defendant at this time supervised the torture and watched the other detainees so that they did not carry out a possible attack or escape. As a result of the numerous blows to the head and body caused, the injured man suffered injuries incompatible with life.

The investigators qualified the criminal actions of a 20-year-old Russian on the basis of criminal offenses provided for in Part 2 of Art. 28, Part 1 of Art. 438, Part 2 of Art. 28, Part 5 of Art. 27, Part 2 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. That is, complicity in the cruel treatment of the civilian population, combined with premeditated murder, committed by a previous conspiracy of a group of persons and the mistreatment of civilians and other violations of the laws and customs of war.

Now, in agreement with the regional prosecutor's office, the defendant was informed of the suspicion in absentia. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
