Counterfeit goods and bribes for the inspection of ships: at the border, regular dealers are exposed
So, the other day in Izmail, law enforcement officers exposed two employees of the State Border Guard Service who set up a criminal scheme for obtaining illegal benefits from the captains of foreign ships.
Detainees demanded and received bribes for a simplified inspection of vessels during border control.
The “tariff” amounted to 100 US dollars for a sea vessel and 50 US dollars for a river vessel arriving or leaving through the state border of Ukraine. So, for one shift, subordinates had to “bring in” up to 2000 US dollars. The border guard received the funds directly or through his accomplice — the inspector of the department.
Border guards were detained after receiving another tranche of illegal funds. Law enforcement officers documented the receipt of $3400 by accomplices.
Currently, the detained DPSU employees have been taken to the IT of the National Police in the city. Odessa. Dealers have already been informed of the suspicion, a precautionary measure has been chosen — detention with the possibility of making a bail of more than UAH 1 million each.
Another case occurred in Transcarpathia, where during service at one of the checkpoints, the border outfit stopped a Mercedes-Benz Atego vehicle.
The driver told the border guards that he was transporting cigarettes of different brands and provided shipping documents for 280 boxes of tobacco products, however, the documents presented caused the border guards to doubt their validity, and the driver refused to open the truck for inspection.
The border guards informed the officers of the National Police about this fact.
Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, the police conducted a joint inspection of the truck. As a result of the activities carried out, 294 boxes of cigarettes were found in the truck, of which 200 boxes without excise stamps.
Currently, the vehicle and cigarettes have been seized in the prescribed manner.
Border guards have already notified the competent law enforcement authorities about the presence in the actions of the driver of signs of a crime provided for in Art. 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Illegal manufacture, storage, sale or transportation for the purpose of sale of excisable goods”.
A similar fact was stopped by the border guards of the Izmail detachment. In particular, they found two dozen Apple gadgets in the Neoplan bus.
The bus was heading to Ukraine through the checkpoint “Reni”. As a result of an in-depth check, the review team found 14 new Apple iPad 9 tablets hidden in the tool box and under the kitchen equipment, one - Apple iPad 10, two - Apple iPad Air 5, one - Apple iPad mini, two Apple wach ultra watches and two Apple TV 4K stationary media players.
Regarding the driver, a protocol was drawn up on violation of customs rules. The detected goods are withdrawn pending a court decision.
It should be noted that on August 22, 98 thousand people and 20 thousand vehicles crossed the western borders of Ukraine with the EU and Moldova (in the Chernivtsi region). 48 thousand people left Ukraine last day. 30 thousand of them crossed the border with Poland, the rest followed to other EU countries and Moldova.
