Smuggling cigarettes, evaders and illegal migrants in a truck: the situation at the border in a day
Yesterday, September 18, the border outfit of the Selatin department spotted an unmanned aerial vehicle while patrolling a section of the state border with Romania. The UAV with the package attached was moving towards Romania.
Soon the drone with the cargo was on the ground. The package contained 400 packs of cigarettes.
Currently, the border guards of the Chernivtsi detachment identify persons involved in illegal activities.
Meanwhile, at the Orlivka checkpoint, border guards of the Izmail detachment detected illegal migrants from Iraq. The border guard heard a rumble in a truck that arrived at the Ukrainian coast by ferry across the Danube and decided to inspect it immediately.
As a result, soldiers in the trailer of the truck found a man with his wife and two young children - a boy and a girl. As established by border guards, a family from Iraq penetrated a car in Turkey while loading it with plastic pipes. Further, travelers planned in search of a better fate to get to one of the EU countries.
The journey in the trailer of a truck for a family of foreigners could end tragically, because it lasted several days, and the “tourists” had neither food nor water with them. So the border guards immediately fed them and treated them with hot tea.
According to this fact, adult foreigners have drawn up protocols on administrative offenses under Art. 204-1 KUPAP “Illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine”. In the future, they will be transferred to the Romanian side in the order of readmission.
But in Zaporozhye, a group will appear before the court on charges of organizing illegal transportation of evaders abroad. Law enforcers found that four Zaporizhzhans, including a neurologist, offered conscripted men to avoid mobilization with their help.
They searched for “clients” on the territory of the regional center. The defendants produced fictitious medical documents about the presence of diseases in order to obtain a conclusion of unfitness for military service and removal from the military record. In the future, this made it possible to travel abroad without hindrance. The cost of such services was 6.5 thousand US dollars per person.
The criminal scheme was exposed and documented by the investigators of the Zaporizhzhya RUP together with the employees of the Internal Security Department of the National Security Bureau of the NPU and the SBU in the Zaporizhzhya region. All the accused are charged under Part 3 of Art.
332 (Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine, committed for selfish motives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to nine years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years with the confiscation of property.
In addition, the 35-year-old neurologist is also accused of committing the crimes provided for in Part 1 of Art. 366 (Service Forgery) and Part 1 of Art. 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In total, 29 people were detained over the past day for attempting to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine — 3 of them tried to cross the border illegally at checkpoints, another 26 were detained outside designated crossing points.
In addition, 7 men, citizens of Ukraine, were not allowed to leave the country, because border guards found signs of forgery of their documents, which give the right to cross the border to persons of conscription age. In the actions of men there are signs of offenses provided for by articles 336 and 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
