The National Guard Command met with the Defence Attaché of the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine

The command of the National Guard of Ukraine held a meeting with the newly appointed defense attaché of the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine, Colonel Nicolas Gaultier.

The main purpose of the meeting was to familiarize representatives of the Office of the Attaché for Defense of the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine with the tasks, role and place of the National Guard of Ukraine during the repulse of Russian aggression, as well as to identify priority areas of cooperation.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Ukrainian side thanked in person the attache of the Government and the people of Canada for supporting Ukraine in confronting the aggression of the Russian Federation. Including the personnel of the Canadian Armed Forces Operation “UNIFIER” for the training and training of National Guard personnel during May 2018 — January 2022.

“In addition to the training of the personnel of the National Guard of Ukraine, we are sincerely grateful to the Government and the people of Canada for the shelter provided for the civilian population, who were forced to leave their homes due to the aggression of the Russian Federation,” said Acting Deputy Commander of the NGU Lieutenant Colonel Oleksiy Osyi Penko.

Representatives of the National Guard of Ukraine familiarized the attaché and his assistant with a number of tasks that are currently being performed by units of the NGU as part of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and the overall vision of the structure.

During the meeting, priority areas of cooperation with the Canadian side were discussed, namely: training of NGU servicemen within the framework of cooperation with the Security Support Group of Ukraine (SAG-U — Security Assistance Group — Ukraine), which involves instructors of the Canadian Armed Forces Operation “UNIFIER”, participation of NGU servicemen in courses conducted with the assistance of the Department of National Security Canada (DND) and the Directorate of Military Training and Cooperation (DMTC), including improvement of language training in the National Guard in the context of Ukraine's focus on the European and Euro-Atlantic course.

“Ukraine is very important to Canada. Many Canadians have Ukrainian roots, so it is important for the Canadian people to know that countries are able to defend their national values and independence. Also, Canadians are grateful for the sacrifice that Ukrainian defenders, including the National Guardsmen, make every day, for which they fight. This is very important for both the Government of Canada and its people,” said Colonel Nicolas Gaultier.

Following the results of the meeting, the parties expressed interest in continuing cooperation.

For reference: in previous years, with the assistance of the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine, the operation of the Armed Forces of Canada “UNIFIER” has trained and trained the personnel of the National Guard in the following areas:

— training of the ranks and sergeants;

— engineering training;

— training of intelligence units; snipers; special purpose units;

— medical training;

— language training;

— standardization of training (development of curricula and clear distinction between collective and individual training).

Since the beginning of its operation, Operation “UNIFIER” has prepared about 2,000 soldiers of the National Armed Forces of Ukraine.
