The commander of the NGU held a meeting with the newly appointed Attaché of the Ground Forces of the Defense Office of the US Embassy
Colonel Povilas Strazdas, newly appointed Attaché of the Ground Forces of the Defense Office of the US Embassy in Ukraine, arrived at the Main Directorate of the National Guard for an introductory meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the commander of the National Guard Colonel Oleksandr Pivnenko introduced the attaché to a number of tasks that are currently being performed by units of the NGU as part of the Defense Forces. Including tasks for the protection and defense of important state facilities, nuclear power plants and convoys of prisoners of war.
Following the discussion of prospective areas of cooperation, an agreement was reached on the importance of planning long-term initiatives, in particular on military training and education.
In addition, one of the important issues was the possible expansion of the United States' future assistance in the development of individual and collective training of personnel, as well as the improvement of instructor training, which in turn will be the basis for improving the training system in the National Guard.
“The priority areas of our cooperation with the US side are the training of personnel, the involvement of the National Guard in projects and initiatives implemented by the Department of Defense Cooperation at the US Embassy in Ukraine and the training of our servicemen in courses within the framework of the International Military Training and Training Program (IMET) in the United States. Equally important for our side is the involvement of US assistance to develop the capabilities of the offensive brigades,” said Colonel Oleksandr Pivnenko.
In continuation of this topic, the parties discussed the possibility of an introductory visit of the delegation of the National Guard of Ukraine to the higher military educational institutions of the United States Department of Defense, which will aim to study the system of professional military education, start cooperation and exchange of experience between educational institutions of NGU and the US Department of Defense.
Following the results of the meeting, the parties expressed interest in developing these initiatives and continuing fruitful cooperation.
