The canologists of the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade together with their four-legged brethren daily in 24/7 mode continue to carry a difficult and important service at checkpoints at the entrances to Kharkiv.

According to the head of the canine service, offenders do not abandon attempts to illegally transport weapons, explosives, ammunition and drugs in Kharkiv, and transit through the city. In the last two weeks alone, dog guards have warned 24 of these cases.

“Among the checkpoints, the unconditional “leader” is the entrance to Kharkov from the city of Chuguev, - says the head of the dog service Roman. - Here we recorded 12 cases in two weeks - that is, half of all the attempts of offenders. I will add that it is at this checkpoint that the National Guard detects the largest number of weapons and explosives.”

According to the officer, the second step of the “palm of the championship” is occupied at once by two checkpoints located at the entrance to Kharkov from Kyiv and Sumy. During this period, 4 attempts of illegal trafficking of weapons, explosives and drugs were detected on them.

“If in December last year we observed a certain trend, when offenders believed that it would be easier for them to carry out their criminal plans on Saturday or Sunday, then during January of this year, on average, we record 1-2 attempts of illegal trafficking of weapons and drugs every day,” - notes the head of the canine service 5th Slobozhanska Brigade.

Among the positive points, he notes that during January 2024, not a single case was found at the checkpoints of Kharkov when dog handlers found prohibited items in the cars of volunteers.

“Last year, our service dogs several times found shells of mines or grenades in volunteers,” the officer says, “But this year there was no such case. Therefore, we are sincerely grateful to the volunteers not only for their hard daily work, help to the army, but also for their principled position — not to break the law!” — emphasizes the officer.

In all cases, investigative and operational teams of the National Police of Ukraine were called to the block posts. According to their materials, 35 criminal cases were opened against offenders under Art. 263 Criminal Code, 15 criminal cases — under Art. 309 of the Criminal Code and three criminal cases — under Art. 307 KKU.
