Cyberpolice exposed a scammer from a volunteer organization
The defendant promised to evacuate two residents of Mariupol and received a subscription for this from their relative. However, the man did not carry out any passenger transportation. Without waiting for help, the Mariupol people died. The offender is detained, he faces up to eight years in prison.
The illegal activities of the 27-year-old man were exposed by employees of the Kyiv Cybercrime Office together with the investigators of the Golosiivskyi Police Department.
“This man volunteered for the fund. Helped keep documentation. Once I came across a post of a girl on a social network, who asked for help to take her mother and stepfather out of Mariupol. “Hero” wrote that he can organize it for 10 thousand hryvnias. The girl immediately transferred this amount to the card of the defendant and began to wait for the arrival of relatives. She could not even think that in reality no one was going to save her family,” said the head of the National Police of Ukraine Igor Klymenko.
Each time the defendant invented new stories and assured the girl that her parents were about to reach safe regions, but he did not fulfill the obligations undertaken. It is established that the relatives of the victim died without waiting for help.
“Cyberpolice have determined that for the detainee, such schemes are not new. Earlier, he had already appropriated about 250 thousand hryvnias for fuel for the military, which he did not plan to buy. At the moment, the attacker has been informed of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code - leaving in danger and fraud. People's apologies can't be returned. The girl hoped for an agreement and did not look for other options to save her relatives. In fact, this is more than articles in the Criminal Code,” Igor Klymenko noted.
At the place of residence of the accused, law enforcement officers searched and seized mobile phone and bank cards.
Pre-trial investigation is carried out under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 2 of Art. 190 (Fraud) and Part 3 of Art. 135 (Endangered). The suspect has chosen a preventive measure - detention.
Procedural management is carried out by the Holosiivska District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Kiev.
