Cyber police exposed two men in hacking accounts of Ukrainian web resources

Using malware, the defendants compromised more than 50 thousand citizens' accounts. In the future, the collected data was sold on hacker forums. For the crime, men can face up to six years in prison.

The illegal activities of two 26-year-old men were exposed by employees of the Cyber Crime Prevention Office in the Dnipropetrovsk region together with the investigators of the regional police.

Cyberpolice found that offenders used malware to hack accounts of Internet resources of Ukrainian enterprises. In the future, compromised accounts were formed into databases and sold on hacker forums. As a result of illegal activities, offenders sold accounts of citizens of Ukraine for more than 100 thousand hryvnias.

At the places of residence of the defendants, law enforcement officers searched and seized computers, mobile phones, flash drives, hard drives and other equipment.

During the review of this technique, law enforcement officers discovered malicious software and compromised confidential information of more than 50 thousand accounts, in particular electronic mailboxes and passwords to accounts of trading, advertising, and media resources.

Both defendants were declared suspected of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Art. 361 (Unauthorized interference in the operation of computers, automated systems, computer networks or telecommunication networks), part 1 of Art. 361-1 (Creation for the purpose of use, distribution or sale of malicious software or technical means, as well as their distribution or sale) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The attackers face up to six years in prison. The organizer of the criminal scheme is taken into custody. Procedural management is carried out by the prosecutor's office of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
