For the second time, cyberpolice became a co-organizer of the #ШахрайГудбай information campaign. Its goal is to improve citizens' awareness of cyber hygiene and to create a culture of safe behavior in the virtual space, as well as to remind the basic rules of security of cashless payments. This was discussed today, February 14, at a briefing with the participation of representatives of the Department of Cyber Police of the NPU and the National Bank.

The project brought together about 80 partners — the National Bank, the Department of Cyber Police of the National Police, EMA, banks, payment systems, mobile operators, online stores, postal services, regional state administrations and others. The information campaign will continue for the next three months in all regions of Ukraine.

According to the head of the department of anti-crime in the field of computer systems of the Cyberpolice Department Yevhenii Doroganov, the most common fraud scenarios for the past year: sale of non-existent goods, pseudo-winnings, telephone scams scams, phishing resources for appropriating money or collecting personal data, seizing money under the pretext of super profits and asking friends for help on social networks. In total, over the past year, cybercriminals searched citizens for more than 193 million hryvnias.

Thus, during 2021, the cyberpolice managed to document criminal activities and send to court more than 2000 criminal proceedings related to Internet fraud, in which 422 attackers were involved. Also, there are currently more than 6600 proceedings in the works. By the way, it is fraudulent activities on the Internet that account for almost 70% of all appeals to the cyber police.

At the same time, according to the National Bank, the level of losses from illegal actions with payment cards in the total volume of all such operations remained relatively low. Last year, a million hryvnias of expenditure transactions using payment cards for illegal actions or dubious transactions accounted for 65 hryvnias, which is slightly higher than the figure in 2020, which was 48 hryvnia.

“That is why we need to remind citizens about the rules of secure online payments and behavior in the virtual space. After all, the main weapon against fraudsters today is awareness,” said Deputy Governor of the National Bank Oleksiy Shaban.

“Despite the fact that cyberpolice are on the offensive, Internet attackers are constantly improving their schemes or inventing new ones. Therefore, we focus on preventive work with the population, because knowledge of the basic rules of cyber hygiene minimizes the risks of suffering from criminal actions of hackers or Internet fraudsters,” Yevgeny Doroganov summed up.
