Cyber police take down a hostile botfarm that was spreading fakes and scams
Fake posts and comments on social networks were allegedly published from ordinary citizens of Ukraine. Botofarm had at least 2,000 fake accounts. For each bot created, the offender received payment in rubles.
The illegal activity of a resident of Kamianets-Podilskyi was exposed by employees of the department of combating cybercrime in Khmelnytsky region together with the investigative department of the regional police and the regional department of the SBU.
The defendant in his home organized the work of a hardware and software complex for registering a large number of social network accounts. From bot accounts, fakes and illegal content were distributed to spread negative attitudes in society.
It was established that so-called “virtual” numbers were used by tenants to register accounts on ad sites and subsequently commit fraud and phishing emails.
For each bot created, the defendant received payment in rubles, through electronic payment systems prohibited in Ukraine.
In the home of the attacker, law enforcement officers searched and seized computer equipment, hundreds of SIM cards, GSM gateways and other specialized equipment and software.
