Cyberpolice of Dnipropetrovsk region exposed attackers in appropriating more than 1.5 million hryvnias for the sale of non-existent goods
Offenders created fake online stores in social networks. They asked for a subscription for the goods, but they did not fulfill their obligations in the future. In this way, they appropriated the money of more than 200 citizens. The attackers were notified of suspicion. The fraud
scheme was exposed by the employees of the Cybercrime Control Department in the Dnipropetrovsk region together with the investigative department of the GUNP of Dnipropetrovsk region. The three defendants, residents of Novomoskovsk and Zaporizhzhia, created pages on social networks, where they proposed made custom-made furniture for beauty salons.
The main condition was a subscription. However, having received customer money, the attackers blocked them and did not get in touch.
For illegal activities, they constantly created new pages, because deceived citizens sent complaints to block fake stores.
The total audience of their accounts was about 100 thousand followers.
It was found that the attackers appropriated the money of more than 200 citizens. The total amount of losses reaches more than 1.5 million hryvnias.
At the places of residence of the defendants, police officers conducted searches and seized mobile phones, bank cards, flash drives. Soldiers of the special purpose police regiment of the Dnipropetrovsk region police were also involved in the searches. Criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art.
190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for up to eight years in prison.
Two defendants have already been declared under suspicion and a precautionary measure has been chosen — detention with the right to post bail. Currently, the issue of declaring suspicion to the third participant in the fraudulent scheme is being resolved.
