Cyberpolice and investigative police of Ivano-Frankivsk region have exposed a pseudo-volunteer for appropriating more than a million hryvnias
Under the guise of assistance in the purchase of cars and equipment for the needs of the Armed Forces, the man appropriated the money of citizens. Among the casualties are the military. The attacker was declared a suspect, for his actions he faces up to seven years in prison.
The illegal activity was exposed by employees of the department of combating cybercrime in the Ivano-Frankivsk region together with investigators of the Kalush district police department. A 27-year-old resident of Kalush on the social network posted an announcement about raising money for the needs of the Armed Forces, as well as about helping volunteers to purchase the goods they need. The man offered cars, drones and other military equipment and ammunition. The defendant received a subscription to bank cards, but did not fulfill the duties assumed.
According to preliminary data, in this way the attacker searched more than 20 citizens, including the military, who are currently at the front. The amount of losses reaches 1.2 million hryvnias. Law enforcement officers searched the defendant's home and seized mobile phones, SIM cards and bank cards that were used in illegal activities.
The defendant was informed of the suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 201-2 (Illegal use for profit of humanitarian aid, charitable donations or gratuitous assistance) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspect faces up to seven years in prison.
Employees of the Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Ivano-Frankivsk region were also involved in the operational actions. Procedural management is carried out by the Kalush District Prosecutor's Office.
Currently, law enforcement officials establish the final number of victims and the amount of damage caused.
