Cyber specialists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received command and staff training
Cyber specialists of the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine have undergone command and staff training. The trainings involved 30 specialists from the apparatus of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, the State Emergency Service, the State Police Administration, the National Guard, the DMS, the GSC, the DNDEKC, higher educational institutions, institutions and enterprises of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system. They worked out 10 situations demonstrating a scenario of a complex and planned cyberattack.
The training was organized at the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the support of the United States Civilian Research and Development Fund. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko congratulated the participants on the start of the exercises.
“Such training is important not only because you can exchange experiences with colleagues. You will also work through situations that will be as close as possible to those that we have during cyberwar. I hope that the scenarios you work out will be important and timely. But soon you will be able to use the acquired skills and knowledge in your practical activities,” said the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Cyberwar in Ukraine has been going on since 2014. Then the first enemy cyberattacks on the public sector were recorded. This is not the first time that such training has taken place. Team and staff training of cyber specialists are simulations of real cyberattacks that are designed to train personnel how to respond to cyber security incidents.
This time, their main task is to learn how to react quickly and make important decisions, to take responsibility for themselves and for their subordinates, to expand their capabilities, and also to analyze a cybersecurity incident not only from the profile side, but to be involved comprehensively.
Among the problem scenarios that were analyzed in these exercises are cyberattacks on the website, blocking users' access to electronic accounts, creation by hackers of fake departmental accounts in social networks, blocking personal laptops of employees through encryption of system and user files.
Also, the participants of the event identified 10 rules for creating effective cybersecurity processes, and finally received certificates of successful completion of the training.
