Employees of the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police, together with colleagues from the SBU and the prosecutor's office, continue activities to identify Russian military and mercenaries of private companies who tortured and abused civilians during the occupation of cities and settlements. According to their results, the identity of the mercenary PVC “Redut” was established.

It was established that the 34-year-old soldier during the temporary occupation of the city of Balakliya, together with his other “servants”, was engaged in the search for men with an active pro-Ukrainian position. They forcibly removed citizens from their homes and took them to the local torture center, where they tortured the victims: they beat them with rubber batons and used stun guns.

In addition, they threatened to cut off fingers, imitated execution. In the course of the investigation, law enforcement officers identified four victims, of whom the Russian military taunted other occupiers.

At the moment, the 34-year-old PVC Redut mercenary was reported in absentia under Part 2 of Art. 28, Part 1 of Art. 438 (Cruelty to the civilian population committed by a group of persons under a previous conspiracy) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Further measures are being carried out to identify other persons involved in crimes against civilians.

Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out by the SBU department in Kharkiv region under the procedural direction of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
