Kateryna Pavlichenko: Stabilization measures are the key to return to peaceful life in the territories liberated from occupation
During the Forum on De-Occupied and Adjacent Territories, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Pavlichenko spoke about the tasks performed by the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the liberated territories.
The event was attended by Ambassadors of EU Member States. They discussed ways to strengthen assistance to Ukraine from the international community, in particular in the process of restoring peace in the de-occupied settlements.
“The de-occupation of Ukrainian territories continues. Thanks to our military, more than 1765 settlements have been liberated. Currently, a complex of stabilization measures is being carried out there. Police officers record war crimes, evacuate the population, serve at checkpoints, identify collaborators, and demining continues. The explosives technicians of the State Emergency Service and the NPU examined more than 110,000 hectares of territory, where they seized more than 614 thousand explosive objects,” Kateryna Pavlichenko said.
According to the Deputy Minister, all the horror committed by the occupiers in the temporarily seized territories can be judged by the number of documented war crimes, including murder, torture, sexual violence, filtration and deportation of Ukrainians.
“In the de-occupied areas of Sumy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, 53 prisoners were found. We have information about 27 filtration camps and prisons created by the occupiers in the territories temporarily controlled by them,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
She stressed that the war continues and many challenges will still arise for law enforcement. How quickly de-occupied territories return to peaceful life depends on how quickly our units are trained and technically equipped.
“Police and rescuers are the leaders of peace and order in the de-occupied territories. To perform tasks efficiently, our units need more modern demining techniques and DNA labs to identify bodies. Also, in the process of reintegration of territories, an important aspect is to increase trust in law enforcement agencies. Working in this direction, we should improve the skills of first contact services in the field of strategic communications,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the international partners for the strong support they provide to Ukraine, in particular, to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
