Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko met with the Head Director and Commander of EU Civil Operations in the European Foreign Service Stefan Tomat within the framework of the work of the European Police Congress.

They discussed the issue of adapting Ukrainian legislation to EU requirements. This direction is important both for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and for the country as a whole.

“We have positive dynamics in this process. A significant part of the laws has already been adapted, in particular, with the support of the ECSC in Ukraine. There remains a considerable amount of work ahead and in this matter we rely on expert support of the mission,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs also thanked the National Police and the National Guard for training in the de-occupied territories for the National Police and the National Guard. Such trainings were held this year with the involvement of the European Gendarmerie Forces.

In addition, the meeting discussed the creation and functioning of the Coordination Center for Integrated Border Management in Ukraine.

Such a center involves the involvement of twelve border management entities to carry out effective monitoring of the situation at the border, conducting risk analysis and strengthening communication capabilities. Implementation of the integrated principle is one of the standards of the European Union. At the same time, we plan to strengthen the traffic police at the border lanes and checkpoints. This will help strengthen their capacity to protect the borders of our state, and in the future — the external borders of the EU.

“To date, not a single case of weapons smuggling outside Ukraine has been recorded. At the same time, we must take into account such risks. We plan to continue cooperation and exchange of information, both with EU agencies and with member countries. At present, we are working with partners on a joint action plan to prevent and counter illegal arms trafficking, which should strengthen the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system to respond to such risks”, - emphasized Kateryna Pavlichenko.

We continue to cooperate with EU countries in the issues of demining our territories, primarily agricultural land. We are grateful for technical assistance to carry out work on cleaning our territories from GNP, in particular through the Foreign Policy Instrument of the European Union - FPI.
