This was emphasized by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine during the inclusion on the air of the national tele-marathon “United News”.

Kateryna Pavlichenko said that currently in Ukraine the action “Take a step is ongoing. Sensitivity triumphs over violence” in terms of countering violence. The aim of the campaign is to reinforce people's understanding that violence is unacceptable and to continue to change the culture of communication in such a way as to develop a caring society that is aware of the trauma of war and unites citizens who respond to violence.

“At first glance, it seems as if tolerance for violent behavior may increase during the war, but I can assure you that Ukrainians are not willing to put up with violent behavior. And that really differentiates us as a nation from an aggressor country. We constantly monitor the number of appeals that come from our citizens to units of the National Police and there are also certain social surveys that demonstrate that domestic violence is considered unacceptable by 87% of our citizens,” said the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

According to Ekaterina Pavlichenko, for 10 months of 2023, 244 thousand reports of domestic violence were received to the National Police of Ukraine.

“It is worth saying that today these statistics are not relevant, since a certain number of territories of Ukraine are under occupation. Also, a large number of Ukrainians have gone abroad. Given all these circumstances, it is really worth saying that the number of appeals to law enforcement agencies is significant and continues to increase. However, this also indicates another important indicator that citizens have confidence in law enforcement. Ukrainians and Ukrainians do not silence violence, are not ready to tolerate it, but report to the relevant authorities.”

The Deputy Minister of the Interior once again reminded that domestic violence can be not only physical, but also psychological, economic and sexual.

“Every time a call comes to line 102, the operators have certain algorithms. Aware that not always a person can provide all the necessary information, being next to the offender, they can collect partial information, but this call will be recorded and a police crew will be sent there,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
