At the moment, the accused Russian military man is in custody in Ukraine. The police gathered all the necessary evidence base in order to send him to prison for the murder of a civilian resident of Sumy region.

This was announced by the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Yevhenii Yenin live broadcast of the all-Ukrainian tele-marathon.

“The first indictment for violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder, is referred to the court (Part 2 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) in relation to a soldier of the Russian Federation who, on the orders of another occupier, killed a civilian with a target shot in the head. The event occurred on February 28 in the Sumy region,” Yevgeny Yenin said.

The First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stressed that the Investigative and Operational Group of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Sumy region has gathered all the necessary evidence base in order to send to prison the Russian military man who killed a peaceful Ukrainian.

“Investigators began an investigation, having only information that the relevant crime was committed somewhere in the Akhtyrsky district. At the same time, they did not have data on the victim. As a result, the police established the identity of the victim, interviewed witnesses, found and examined the car from which the Russian military shot the citizen. The exhumation of the body was carried out and a series of examinations were appointed, which should prove the guilt of the Russian serviceman,” he informed.

In addition, Yevgeny Yenin said that in total 111 criminal proceedings were opened in the Sumy region under Art. 438 (Violation of the laws and customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

“I want to assure that law enforcement officers will prosecute all Russian occupiers involved in war crimes,” he said.
