A single emergency number 112 will work throughout Ukraine by the end of 2024
This was said by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko on the air of the All-Ukrainian Telemarathon “United News”.
“In July 2023, we started the process of implementing the entire emergency care system under the single number 112, the entire territory of Ukraine will be covered by the end of 2024,” said Leonid Tymchenko.
The Deputy Minister noted that now Service 112 operates in the central macroregion - this is the city of Kiev, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Chernihiv and Cherkasy regions. Emergency calls to 112 are also available in Lviv and Lviv region. By May 1, 2024, 112 will cover the entire Western Macroregion.
In addition, on May 1, the communication center “Service 112" will work in the city of Dnipro, and by September 1 it will serve the entire east of Ukraine. Also, on September 1, it is planned to open the 112 communication center in Odessa and by the end of 2024 the network will expand to all southern regions.
“It is important to note that the introduction of a single emergency number 112 is a requirement of the European Union. In order for EU citizens, being in Ukraine, to use the 112 number familiar to them, the Ministry of Internal Affairs introduces a single number for calling emergency services, - Leonid Tymchenko noted. - Our operators speak English, Polish, in the future - a set of specialists with knowledge of Romanian and The Hungarian language.”
Also, 112 today has the ability to process calls from people with disabilities using sign language in video call mode.
“I note that the usual emergency numbers 101, 102, 103, 104 continue to work, and they will continue to work. And the work of the 112 Service now makes it possible to make an emergency call and get help from several or all services at once, by calling only one number,” the Deputy Minister summed up.
