Dmytro Finashin — sniper and scout of the NGU, Hero of Ukraine. In the spring of 2022, a fighter with his brothers came under enemy fire and received a severe hand wound. For two days he was left in a semi-conscious state in the gray area. He passed to Ukrainian positions, marinated and drank water from puddles. On the third day he was found and rescued. This is his story of invincibility:

Dmitry could not stand aside when Russia began its aggression against Ukraine. So in 2015 he joined the National Guard.

The service began with the protection of public order in Kyiv. Only then he transferred to the Kulchitsky battalion and became an air scout.

Over time, the guard joined the sniper battle group and retrained. Dmitry recalls that on the eve of the Russian invasion on February 24, everything hinted at a full-scale war.

“I wanted to believe that this would not happen, but there was an understanding that it could start. I was ready for war. Before leaving for the rotation, he prepared at home a clear list of things and documents that must be carried in the alarm backpacks. A full-scale invasion was met in the East. It was he who came to the rotation,” says Dmitry with the nickname “Finn”.

In the spring, during the execution of a combat mission, a guard with his brothers came under enemy fire and received a severe hand wound. For two days he was left in a semi-conscious state in the gray area.

Then everyone believed that he and his brothers died, but an incredible thirst for life saved Dmitry. He passed to Ukrainian positions, marinated and drank water from puddles. On the third day he was found and taken to the hospital.

Due to severe injuries, Dmitry had his left hand amputated, his index finger on the right. Now he has already undergone rehabilitation, works in the unit for unmanned aviation and received the officer rank - “Junior Lieutenant”.

“Perhaps the fact that I survived in such difficult conditions is my greatest achievement. And this experience will guide me through life and motivate me to move on. After returning from the front, I feel the overwhelming support of my family and loved ones. It inspires and empowers. It seems to me that it is very important to have someone close by who can give advice, support in difficult moments or rejoice in positive moments. As they say, one in the field is not a warrior”, — notes “Finn”.

Dmitry advises all veterans to be sure to socialize, look for themselves and communicate with people.
