The story of two combat comrades from the battalion “Donbass”
Zolochiv's brothers and America serve in the special purpose battalion “Donbass”, military unit 3035 of the National Guard of Ukraine. Their task at the front is the evacuation of the wounded and the dead.
The military has experienced a lot since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Together they took part in hostilities in Luhansk region, Donetsk region, as well as in operations for the liberation of Kupyansk and Volokhovy Yar in Kharkiv region.
“My son served in this battalion, so without hesitation, I decided to defend my land from the enemy. He is the main motivator and support for me. I'm 52 years old now, but that's not an indicator, and at that age you can be useful on the front lines,” says America. He comes from Slavyansk, went to serve a year ago.
Another brother was called in Zolochiv, in the Lviv region, and therefore has such a callsign.
“I used to be a driver, so already in the military unit I went to study courses in the specialty of driver mechanic of the BTR. When he moved here to the east, he found himself at the battalion's medical station behind the wheel of a medical car,” Zolochiv shared.
The military says that the evacuation of the wounded often becomes a very dangerous job. It requires a “cold” mind and steadfastness.
“Our task is to evacuate the killed and wounded comrades. When you wait for a challenge, you probably get more nervous than when you pull guys out from under the rubble or from the trenches. It happened that they were evacuated under mortar fire. We have to maneuver very quickly, and at the same time carefully, in order to save the life of our brother, because this task is a priority,” explains America.
Recall that the legendary battalion “Donbas” was formed by volunteers in 2014. Subsequently, they became part of the National Guard of Ukraine. The fighters of the “Donbas” underwent severe tests in the battles for Karlivka, Popasna, Lisichansk, Ilovaisk, Mariupol, Debaltseve, Severodonetsk, Mayorsk, Kupyansk, Lyman, Rubizhne, Kreminna. They were noted in almost all hot spots in Luhansk region, Donetsk region and Kharkiv region.
