This was emphasized by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine during a meeting with the Canadian delegation headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Natalka Tsmots.

Also part of the foreign delegation were Defence Attaché of the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine Nicolas Gaultier and Senior Program Officer of the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine Vikramvir Swagh.

The main topic of the talks was support for Canada against the background of an increase in the number of attacks by the Russian Federation on the civilian and critical infrastructure of Ukraine. In particular, the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko informed the partners about the consequences of recent shelling by the Russian Federation:

“Canada is one of the G7 countries and it is in our interest that you are promptly aware of the situation in our country. The enemy does not stop and continues to attack our cities and villages. In recent months, Russia has focused on shelling critical and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. It is often our rescuers or policemen who are the first to arrive at the scene of enemy attacks.”

Also Igor Klymenko spoke about the problem of mined territories and the work of mining machines. According to the Minister, for its part, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has restructured the work of the services in order to deport the territories as soon as possible, but in order to implement these plans, Ukraine needs appropriate equipment.

Separately, the Head of the Department informed the partners about the security initiatives that are already being implemented in Ukraine, in order to control the criminogenic situation in the state even during the war. In particular, Igor Klymenko spoke about the project “Officer of the Educational Security Service”, which involves the work of police officers in schools.

“We are well aware of the danger that awaits our children after the war, so now we are working on organizing security in schools through this project. The point is that every school should have a police officer — selected and deeply trained. It will have both preventive and law enforcement functions,” said Igor Klymenko.

In turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Natalka Tsmots said that Canada deeply understands all the problems of our country against the background of a full-scale invasion.

“We understand all the challenges and challenges you face, which is why we will continue to support you and provide all the necessary assistance to overcome them. Through joint actions, we need to form an evidence base for Russia to answer for its actions in the International Court of Justice. We are also strengthening our cooperation in combating illegal arms trafficking, deportation of children and trafficking in human beings,” Natalka Tsmots said.

The Ambassador noted that Ukraine can be confident of long-term support from Canada. An example of this is the agreement on cooperation in the field of security. Separately, the partners discussed the issue of rehabilitation of Ukrainian military and conducting trainings for Ukrainian specialists in this area.
