Today, on January 14, Ihor Klymenko, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, met with Mateja Prevolšek, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to Ukraine.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of important issues, including expanding cooperation between law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Slovenia and Ukraine in the areas of countering crime and illegal migration, as well as providing support for the Ukrainian citizens who had been granted temporary protection in the Republic of Slovenia.

“I am glad to welcome you at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. We appreciate the assistance and solidarity provided by the Republic of Slovenia in these difficult times. Your country's efforts are also aimed at supporting our citizens who had received temporary protection in your country. We are sincerely grateful to you for this assistance and for your readiness for further cooperation”, – emphasised the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Madam Ambassador reassured that the Republic of Slovenia remains committed to continue supporting Ukraine:

"The Republic of Slovenia remains committed to supporting the Ukrainian people, both within Ukraine and abroad. We are ready to cooperate in tackling joint challenges and strengthen our cooperation in the security sector".

Moreover, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to Ukraine announced the transfer of several EOD vehicles for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the coming days as part of the implementation of the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia on Humanitarian Demining:

"I fully support this initiative, as it is a perfect opportunity to strengthen your agencies. Rescuers do an extremely important job - they are among the first to arrive at the sites of enemy attacks, perform demining and save lives. We must do everything we can in order to maintain their safety and effectiveness".

Particular attention was paid to combatting illegal migration. The parties agreed to exchange information and coordinate actions to counter this phenomenon.

Ihor Klymenko also expressed his gratitude for the support and creation of appropriate conditions for the Ukrainians currently residing in Slovenia who had been forced to leave the country because of the war.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the aid delivered to every Ukrainian who had been given temporary protection in your country. You have created the conditions that allow our people to feel safe and receive the necessary support”, – added the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The parties also discussed the upcoming visit of the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Slovenia to Ukraine and agreed to continue the dialogue and joint efforts to resolve current issues and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the future.

“We appreciate the efforts aimed at strengthening our services. Every sign of solidarity, every assistance is not just support, but proof of a true partnership”, – summarized Ihor Klymenko.
