Igor Klymenko about the murder of a policeman in Vinnytsia region: Criminals transported ammunition, which were then dumped in a pond
This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko during the inclusion on the air of the National Television Marathon “United News”.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that criminals have already received suspicions, they will be selected for a preventive measure. Also, law enforcement officers seized the gun from which the policeman was killed:
“We understand that they were really carrying ammunition, grenades. They have already indicated where the grenades thrown into the pond are in the boxes. Currently, forensics, investigators and, accordingly, divers are working on the site. As for the weapon with which our policeman was shot, today we understand where this gun is. The murder weapon has already been seized and will be included in the criminal proceedings.”
Another police officer, who was also injured, is currently in a moderate condition. According to Igor Klymenko, doctors give a positive prognosis for the injured person.
The Minister of Internal Affairs noted that law enforcement officers fulfilled their functional duties of patrol and response, and therefore stopped the car of the attackers, who were driving on curfew in violation of the Rules of the Road.
“As for the work of checkpoints, they work effectively, at least where employees of the police, the National Guard, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the territorial defense work. And to strengthen the checkpoints, in my opinion, today is not worth it. It is worth reviewing once again the instructions for the response and actions of the police in such cases. I want to emphasize that it does not matter what kind of citizens it is, whether it is military or police. A citizen who violates the law must answer according to the law,” Ihor Klymenko stressed.
Also, the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that in 2023 alone, law enforcement officers seized about 5.5 thousand units of firearms:
“This is the work that all law enforcement agencies carry out daily, hourly, and at night as well. And this case shows that whatever the motives of these citizens, they broke the law and must respond.”
Igor Klymenko noted that each such case forces to change the protocols of response, both in the State Emergency Service and in the National Police of Ukraine.
“Unfortunately, it is the lives and health of our workers, our rescuers and police officers that are being taken away by war. We write these instructions in blood. As scary as it sounds, we have to react to any mistakes that may have been made before. After all, these mistakes, and these inaccuracies in these instructions, can lead to the loss of our employees,” the Head of the Department said.
