Igor Klymenko: During the mining operations since the beginning of the full-scale war, 21 employees of the State Emergency Service were killed, another 87 were injured
This was reported by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
“Unfortunately, 21 employees of the State Emergency Service were killed during the mining operations. Another 87 pyrotechnics were injured while carrying out the task of demining the territory,” he said.
According to him, the process of demining already has high risks, and during work in the de-occupied territories, the risks to life increase, because the Russians set mini-traps, use remote mining.
“The enemy's task is to get as many victims as possible among us. And ours is to save the lives of professionals. Therefore, we use the latest technologies,” the Minister stressed.
He added that in addition to mechanized demining machines, pyrotechnics use drones to survey potentially contaminated areas, space images.
“It helps in understanding the big picture. Because we are not just talking about open land. Forests and rivers — they also change. And we have to work there,” Igor Klymenko explained.
