Igor Klymenko discussed with NATO Assistant Secretary General Thomas Goffus the implementation of the Roadmap for Interoperability of Ukraine with the Alliance
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine thanked the representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance for their significant support against the background of a full-scale Russian invasion.
Igor Klymenko stressed that Ukraine's cooperation with the Alliance has deepened significantly since the beginning of the war, because Ukrainians are not only defending their own security and independence, they are talking about global peace.
“We are ready to participate in the projects that NATO carries out in order to better understand each other. At the moment, we are all doing one thing and we have one goal - to defeat the enemy,” said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Igor Klymenko noted that it is now important to talk about the implementation of the Roadmap for the interoperability of Ukraine with the Alliance, because we have to think about future risks and how to deal with them.
“We are well aware that after the end of the war, Ukraine will strictly control the border with Russia and Belarus. And this protection will be quite specific, we are talking about the system of radio-electronic combat against enemy drones,” Ihor Klymenko stressed.
In turn, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations Thomas Goffus said that the Alliance strongly condemns Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine. He noted that NATO is carefully studying all the needs of Ukraine in order to ensure them in a timely manner:
“Our long-term goal is to help Ukraine and modernize its security and defense sector by integrating Euro-Atlantic best practices. We are already cooperating with you in the issue of stabilizing police activities, as well as in the field of public security. So this meeting will help to better discuss Ukraine's urgent needs.”
The head of the Roadmap team, Andrew Cullen, also attended the meeting, and he noted that cooperation with Ukraine is very important for NATO, as it is part of the entire defense and security sector.
“We have already provided our proposals on how we can implement this roadmap on interoperability together with you. And this proposal was aimed at building on many of your previous partnerships. We hope to achieve this quickly,” he said.
In response, the Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko stressed that Ukraine is ready for urgent work with NATO.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on further fruitful cooperation and consolidation of efforts on the implementation of the Roadmap and ensuring Ukraine's defense needs.
