Today, June 15, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine held a meeting of the Head of the Interior Igor Klymenko with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Ukraine Bridget Brink. The main topic of negotiations was the coordination of the United States and Ukraine on the elimination of the consequences of the disaster at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.

Igor Klimenko informed the American partners that he was keeping the situation under personal control. In particular, he monitors on a daily basis the work of all units that are struggling with the consequences of this tragedy.

He said that at present in the Kherson region there are big problems, not only with water, but also with the leakage of lubricant from the engine room of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant, which is moving in the direction of the Black Sea.

“At the moment, one of the main problems is the leakage of lubricant from the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant. Yesterday we found a large oil patch measuring several tens of square kilometers. And we are talking about the fact that we cannot remove it very quickly. We know that 150 tons of this oil poured out of the Kakhovsky reservoir and went along the Dnieper. At the moment, we already have a deterioration in water indicators in the Black Sea, precisely along the coast of the Odessa region,” said Igor Klymenko.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine stressed that in order to eliminate these consequences, Ukraine additionally needs equipment, reagents and relevant specialists.

In addition, Igor Klymenko said that as a result of the demolition by the occupiers of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant, about 167 thousand people were left without water in the Dnipropetrovsk region alone. And the first task of the authorities in this direction is to drill additional wells or to provide water from the Dnieper channel.

“Today there are no problems with water supply, both with drinking and technical. But it requires serious logistics, which we have fully established. The main thing is that the people affected by this disaster receive new housing,” said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In turn, US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said that she was very outraged by another terrorist act on the part of Russia — the blowing up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. She stressed that official Washington will make every effort so that Ukraine can quickly overcome these consequences.

“I am very sad to hear these numbers. This is a terrible page in the history of Ukraine. From the first minute we learned of this disaster we have worked very closely with local authorities and your government to identify all urgent needs. However, I am incredibly fascinated by the operational work of all units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in particular the emergency services, which heroically rescue people from flooded areas,” said Bridget Brink.

She stressed that the United States is already working with other partners to collectively respond to all the problems caused by the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. Bridget Brink noted that once the situation stabilizes, it will be possible to talk about the long-term consequences of this disaster and ways to solve them.

“I promise that we will provide you with all necessary assistance in the shortest possible time to jointly overcome all the consequences caused by the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant by the Russian army,” said Brigitte Brink, the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine.
